Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has called on Nigerians to hold leaders accountable, stressing that responsible and people-oriented governance is essential to tackling the country’s economic and security challenges.
In a New Year message shared on Wednesday through his media aide, David Iyofor, Amaechi noted that 2025 tested Nigeria’s resilience, with many families facing economic hardship, rising living costs, and increasing insecurity.
He urged citizens to use the new year as a turning point to pursue peace, unity, improved security, economic stability, and overall well-being. “We must collectively demand leadership that is responsible, responsive, transparent, people-oriented, and accountable to the people,” he said.
Amaechi also emphasised the need for economic reforms focused on job creation, poverty reduction, affordable healthcare, housing, food, and access to quality education. He further called for political and electoral reforms to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
“As we welcome the New Year, let us commit to making a turning point in our national aspiration for peace, unity, improved security of lives and property, economic stability and prosperity, and the overall well-being of our people, by holding the government accountable,” Amaechi stated.
He concluded by underscoring the importance of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law in building a better Nigeria.
