Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has disclosed that the push against former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was rooted in the need to uphold a power rotation agreement between the North and South.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Amaechi said there was an unwritten understanding that power should alternate between the North and South every eight years. He stated that Jonathan had initially agreed to serve only one term but later reneged on the arrangement.
“I led the fight against the PDP government because there was an agreement that the government at the time would serve four years. After four years, that government reneged. I said no, that would be unfair,” Amaechi said.
He warned that disregarding the agreement could have caused political instability, especially with possible reactions from the North. Amaechi emphasized that just as the North was allowed to complete its term, the South must now be allowed to do the same.
