Former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has criticized the Federal Government for its perceived lack of political will in addressing the rising wave of killings and terrorist attacks across Nigeria.
In a statement, Amaechi highlighted that the government has failed to provide adequate protection for citizens, citing recent security breaches, including attacks on civilians in Plateau, the abduction of secondary schoolgirls in Kebbi, an ambush on soldiers in Borno resulting in the killing and abduction of Brigadier General M. Uba, an attack on a church in Kwara, and the kidnapping of Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal in Kaduna—all occurring within a single week.
“All of these incidents are too serious to ignore,” Amaechi said, stressing that the situation has emboldened terrorists and eroded public trust.
Amaechi called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the security of lives and property, urging decisive leadership, stronger intelligence coordination, and accountability. He warned against issuing mere statements of condemnation or neglecting pressing security concerns for political engagements.
He further offered the experience of Rivers State in combating insecurity, noting, “We did it in Rivers State; it can be done in the country. We are prepared to help if you request help.”
Amaechi concluded by urging the Federal Government to sharpen its response to terrorist activities, strengthen military intelligence, and take bold actions to safeguard Nigerians.
