The Rivers State Police Command says it is investigating allegation of extortion levelled against some officers of its anti-cultism unit, by a student of the Rivers State University, Peter Nwachukwu.
Spokesperson of the command, Grace Koko in a statement yesterday, said the Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday has ordered full investigation into the matter.
According to her, justice would be served in the matter, as the command has zero tolerance for such illegal acts.
You would recall that a student of the Rivers State University, Peter Nwachukwu had accused officers of the anti-cultism unit of the Rivers State Police Command, Rukpokwu, of extorting him the sum of fifty thousand naira after tagging him a cultist and internet fraudster.
Peter, who disclosed this in a chat with journalists, also accused the officers of torturing and brutalizing him before taking him to their station at former SARS office at Rukpokwu.
The student, said he was in a cab when the officers in a white Sienna car intercepted them last Thursday.
Peter, said they tied his hands and threw him in their vehicle, after he had received a slap for asking what his crime was.
According to him, two of the officers sat on him while in the vehicle for minutes as he was shouting that he could not breathe.
The student, alleged that the leader of the team threatened to kill him when he was about to be released for creating a scene when he was arrested and called on the Police hierarchy to come to his aid.
