The Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Rivers state chapter, have donated the sum of N23 million to help the Government fight the coronavirus pandemic in the state.
The Public Relations officer of the association Hope Ikiriko, disclosed to news correspondents, on Thursday April 2, 2020, in Port Harcourt.
Ikiriko, commended Governor Wike, over the measures taken to curb the spread of the virus, while also calling on the residents of the state to obey directives of the state government.
He stated that, “the measures taken by the state government to curb the spread of the virus is highly commendable.
“We are extremely happy with the Governor for the way and manner he has handled the coronavirus issue, without which the state would have been in serious danger.
“We as an association will do everything within our powers to ensure that the virus doesn’t spread in the state.
This is coming, after members of the Rivers state House of Assembly, unanimously agreed to donate their one-month salary to the state government to help fight the virus.
Some stakeholders in the state have commended the association for its kind gesture as they urge other associations to follow suit.
So far, the state has one confirmed case of the Coronavirus according to the Nigeria Centre for disease control, NCDC.
