A seven-man adhoc-committee has been constituted by the Rivers State House of Assembly to find out measures taken by SPDC to contain the oil spill at Aleto in Eleme Local Government Area of the State.
This was after the lawmaker representing Eleme Constituency in the State Assembly, Oforji Igwe, drew the attention of the House to the issue.
The committee which was constituted Today was given three weeks by Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule to report their findings.
The Speaker said the people of Aleto need justice for their destroyed environment, saying he is prepared to explore other legal means if SPDC fails to appear before the committee.
Hon. Igwe Obey Aforji in a chat with journalists outside the House charged his Constituents and the people of Aleto to remain calm and be law abiding as he will do everything possible by the Law to ensure that Shell Petroleum Development Company do the right thing.
