Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has maintained that his administration will not acknowledge the faction of the state House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, despite growing pressure from the Rivers National Assembly Caucus.
In an official statement titled “Setting the Records Straight on the Situation in Rivers,” spokesperson Johnson argued that Amaewhule and his faction lost their legislative status after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on December 11, 2023.
Johnson emphasized that the ruling by Justice Omotosho, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal, did not affect the status of Amaewhule and his group of 27 as former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He further contended that their defection automatically led to the forfeiture of their seats.
