The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has launched a scathing critique of key figures in the emerging political coalition, describing them as disgruntled politicians seeking relevance after electoral defeats.
Speaking during a media engagement in Abuja, Wike alleged that former Senate President David Mark once sought to become the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was rejected. He pointed out that while Mark served as a PDP leader, his daughter won an election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his own constituency, and he lost influence in the area.
Wike also took a swipe at former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, boasting that he defeated him at all political levels in Rivers State — even when Amaechi served as the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign and held a key ministerial post.
Addressing former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, Wike said the level of corruption during Malami’s eight-year tenure “cannot be overemphasised.” He also criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of lacking ideological consistency due to his frequent party defections, asking rhetorically, “What is he going to tell his children?”
The minister further accused former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, of defecting from the PDP because his ally, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy), was not removed as the party’s National Secretary.
“These elements were simply bitter about losing power,” Wike said. “Instead of admitting defeat, they now claim Nigerians are angry and that they want to rescue the country. Rescue Nigeria from what? From themselves?”
Wike’s comments come amid growing momentum around a proposed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
