The Rivers State chapter of the African Democracy Congress (ADC) has pledged to pursue justice for the Emohua Local Government workers recently dismissed by the council chairman, Hon. Chidi Lloyd.
The development had triggered a strike by members of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), which was later suspended after Governor Siminalayi Fubara waded into the matter.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ADC State Chairman, Chief Sampson Leader, described the action of the Emohua council boss as “heartless” and insensitive, especially given the nation’s current economic hardship.
Leader, who made the remarks shortly after meeting with Dr. Fortune Alfred, Senior Political Adviser and head of the South-South Regional Office of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, said the sack exposed the administration’s “cruel disregard” for the welfare of Rivers citizens.
“The heartless actions of Hon. Chidi Lloyd, who callously sacked LGA workers amidst Nigeria’s economic turmoil, exposes the cruel disregard of our current government for the well-being of Rivers State citizens,” the statement read.
The ADC chairman further alleged that such “acts of barbarity” reflect the oppressive tendencies of leaders at both state and federal levels.
“The ADC will not stand idly while our people suffer. We vow to fight tirelessly for justice and liberation, and by 2027, we will liberate Rivers State from the clutches of these oppressive rulers,” he declared.
