The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over the apparent lack of collaboration between former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Friday on The Morning Show, a programme on Arise Television, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the situation poses a challenge for the opposition, though he refrained from describing it as a major threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
He noted that while the development presents a political conundrum, it is an issue the party is closely monitoring in the build-up to the next election cycle.
Abdullahi also clarified that the ADC is not currently engaged in discussions about its presidential ticket. According to him, the party’s focus remains on strengthening its structures nationwide.
He said the ADC is prioritising efforts to establish a solid presence across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with the aim of being fully prepared to contest future elections rather than speculating on candidates at this stage.
