The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that a recent directive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could hinder its ability to field candidates in forthcoming elections, raising concerns about its participation in the electoral process.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that the issue arose from INEC’s decision to suspend the acceptance of correspondence from the party pending the outcome of a case before the Federal High Court.
The ADC expressed concern that the development appears aimed at excluding it from contesting, citing documentary evidence to support its claims. According to the party, the evidence includes certified INEC records, attendance logs, monitoring reports, and excerpts from the Commission’s sworn affidavit, which together present a consistent account of events.
The party further stated that INEC had previously acknowledged and monitored its July 29, 2025 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. It noted that the Commission deployed officials to oversee the meeting, documented proceedings, and received formal reports from its field officers.
Following the meeting, the ADC said INEC updated its internal records to reflect the party’s new leadership, including David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.
