The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has said he is not afraid of losing the presidential ticket of the emerging African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 elections.
Obi made the statement during his recent visit to LEA Primary School, Kapwa, Abuja, where he addressed growing speculation that Atiku might hijack the ADC’s presidential ticket.
He dismissed the claims, describing Atiku as a “dear elder brother and respected leader,” and stressed that the emerging coalition was not about personal ambition but about rescuing Nigeria.
“Let me tell you, Atiku is a very dear elder brother and leader that I have a lot of respect for. I’m not afraid of losing ADC’s presidential ticket to him,” Obi said.
“I’m a member of the Labour Party and I belong to the coalition forming the ADC for the presidential election in 2027. I can tell you that other parties and people are going to be part of it. All of us are going to come together as a people,” he added.
Obi emphasized that the coalition’s goal is to unite all well-meaning Nigerians across party lines to move the country forward.
“For us to do the right thing for the country, all well-meaning people will have to come together to rescue the country,” he said.
