The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the Rivers State Government’s assertion that it is providing free primary and secondary education, describing the claim as misleading.
Speaking on the issue, the party’s state chairman, Leader Samson, maintained that the last time the state genuinely implemented free education was during the tenure of former Governor Chibike Rotimi Amaechi.
He argued that many public schools across Rivers State are currently in poor shape, citing inadequate maintenance and weak infrastructure. According to him, the present administration has also failed to prioritize teacher training and broader capacity development within the education sector.
Samson further alleged that most education-related opportunities in the state are largely accessible only to individuals with political connections or those affiliated with agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC.)
The state government is yet to react to the allegation.
