Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, says the emerging coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is experiencing setbacks due to unresolved debates on zoning and the rotation of key political positions.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, made the remarks during an interview on the YouTube programme Advocacy for Good Governance.
He stressed that although he is fully committed to the Labour Party and supports the ADC-led coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, the alliance must first clarify its internal agreements and settle critical grey areas.
“I’m a member of the Labour Party and I support the ADC coalition for 2027. I believe in it,” Obi said.
“But even with that belief, the coalition needs to clearly define the fundamentals we all agree to uphold. There are fine lines that must be respected. We need to sit down and properly discuss the direction we want the country to go.”
According to him, the coalition currently operates with “unsigned agreements” regarding the presidency and the rotation of major offices, issues he insists must be resolved to build a united and credible front for the coming election cycle.
