The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of selectively targeting opposition figures in politically motivated investigations.
In a statement by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, the party claimed the anti-graft agency had launched a “choreographed media trial” against coalition leaders following Monday’s detention of former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and the invitation of former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.
According to the ADC, the EFCC’s latest move involves “surreptitiously” revisiting cases from the tenure of its Interim National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark, a decade after he left office. Abdullahi questioned the timing of the probe, alleging that “the pattern of ignoring APC stalwarts with fresher and well-documented cases, while targeting opposition figures with stale allegations, is proof of selective justice and an assault on political freedom.”
The party further alleged the crackdown was part of the ruling All Progressives Congress’ strategy to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
