Former Senator Magnus Abe has explained the basis of the current political unity in Ogoni land, attributing it to the leadership and unifying approach of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Abe made this known during a special visit by Wike to Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State. According to him, political rivalry and manipulation had caused deep divisions in Ogoni, leading to crises, including the burning of the Gokana Local Government Council.
He stated that the conflicts arose when political actors were pitched against one another in the struggle for local government leadership, resulting in violence among community members. He noted that the situation changed under Wike, who promoted consensus and inclusiveness in political appointments.
Abe also said that under Wike’s influence, Ogoni had been able to peacefully agree on the choice of local government chairman, vice chairman, and secretary, a development he said had strengthened unity among the people.
He described Wike as a leader who brings people together, stressing that the present unity in Ogoni was a direct result of his leadership style. Abe assured the FCT minister of the continued support of the Ogoni people, noting that wherever Wike leads, they would follow.
