A member of the House of Representatives has reportedly appealed for patience following concerns raised by social media activist VeryDarkMan over the condition of a school building in Odiokwu Community, Ahoada area of Rivers State.
According to the activist, the lawmaker made the appeal during a phone conversation on Sunday, stating that he would be in Port Harcourt on Monday to personally address the issue and requested that further actions be put on hold until his arrival.
VeryDarkMan, who had earlier highlighted the poor condition of the school building on social media, said attempts were made overnight to begin renovating the structure.
He alleged that around midnight, a truckload of sand and bags of cement were delivered to the school premises in preparation for renovation.
However, the activist insisted that renovation was not the solution, arguing that the structure was too weak and could collapse, thereby posing a danger to pupils.
He explained that the plan, which he said was supported by Nigerian music star Burna Boy, is to demolish the existing building and construct a new one entirely.
Despite describing the day’s efforts as unsuccessful, the activist maintained that the campaign for a safer learning environment for children in the community would continue.
He stressed that pupils in the area deserve a conducive and secure place to learn, warning that simply renovating the building could put their lives at risk.
