Okogbe community in Rivers State was thrown into shock on Sunday after Joshua, the Vice Chairman of a local vigilante group, was arrested alongside fellow member Friday Silas and motorcycle rider Obed Godlove for allegedly attempting to dump the body of a man.
The suspects were intercepted by youths and the Joint Task Force in Ukpeliede community while trying to dispose of the deceased, identified as Ghadafi.
Reports indicate that Ghadafi was tortured to death over alleged theft of palm fruits. Graphic images and videos circulating online reportedly show the man naked with his hands and legs bound.
During questioning, Joshua claimed that Ghadafi had been causing trouble in the community and was initially detained to be banished but later died in their custody.
Chief Security Officer of Ukpeliede community, Osiga King, confirmed the arrest and noted that nearby soldiers were alerted after the suspects were seen attempting to move the body.
