Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has condemned insults directed at leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying such actions do not represent the Obidient movement.
Obi spoke on Tuesday during an engagement at the Obidient movement’s secretariat, where he stressed that he has never encouraged supporters to abuse or attack leaders within the opposition coalition.
He described those who engage in verbal attacks under the guise of supporting him as criminals, insisting they are not genuine members of the Obidient movement.
According to Obi, such behaviour runs contrary to his political values and long-standing relationships with key figures in the coalition. The former Anambra governor said he maintains cordial relations with ADC leaders and would never endorse name-calling or divisive rhetoric within the opposition.
Obi urged members of the ADC and the wider coalition to treat one another with respect, noting that insults and personal attacks have no place in their politics.
“Let me tell you here, most of the things you hear are done by criminals who are not obedient people. You don’t see anybody calling the other a bad name. We are not asking for division. I personally do not, in any way, call anybody a bad name,” Obi said.
