Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has officially taken charge as Chairman of Agege Local Government following the resignation of his predecessor, Tunde Azeez.
Azeez, who went on medical leave less than a month after assuming office on July 27, 2025, tendered his resignation on Wednesday owing to ongoing health concerns.
His resignation was announced during a plenary session at the Agege Council Chamber, where the Leader of the House, Adeshina Haruna, read the letter to lawmakers, who then unanimously approved Obasa — previously serving in acting capacity — as the substantive council chairman.
Obasa had earlier shown interest in running for the chairmanship position in the upcoming 2025 local government polls but was initially excluded after criticisms trailed his nomination.
