Rumuji community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State has been thrown into turmoil following the alleged removal of the community’s youth chairman by the council.
According to reports from the area, what began as a peaceful protest by youths opposing the decision quickly degenerated into violent clashes, resulting in chaos across the community. Eyewitnesses confirmed that one person has reportedly lost his life as tensions continue to escalate.
Community elders and opinion leaders have called for urgent intervention from the Rivers State Government and security agencies to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed in Rumuji.
As of the time of filing this report, normalcy has yet to return to the area, while security operatives are said to be on ground to forestall further violence.
