The Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET), Ogoni, has entered into a formal partnership with Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic (Kenpoly) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing academic collaboration, resource sharing, and institutional growth.
The MoU was signed during a visit by FUET’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedu Mmom, who described the partnership as a significant milestone for both institutions.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Mmom highlighted FUET’s unique mandate as the first specialized environmental university in Nigeria. “Our mission is to address environmental challenges, not only in Ogoniland but across Rivers State, the Niger Delta, and other environmentally affected areas of the country,” he said. He added that the university would leverage hands-on local technologies, artificial intelligence, and emerging innovations to remediate oil-contaminated sites and other environmental issues.
Prof. Mmom also emphasized the importance of collaboration with Kenpoly, noting that FUET would benefit from manpower, equipment, and laboratory support as it prepares to commence academic activities in September 2025. The university operates two campuses in Koroma and Saakpenwa, both in Tai Local Government Area.
Welcoming the FUET delegation, the Rector of Kenpoly, Engr. Dr. Ledum Suanu Gwarah, expressed optimism about the partnership. “We see this University as a welcome development that will provide solutions to the environmental challenges of the Ogoni people and Rivers State as a whole,” he said, pledging continuous support from Kenpoly.
The event concluded with the official signing of the MoU, formally establishing a framework for staff and student exchanges, shared resources, and sustainable collaboration between the two Institutions.
