The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed reports denying a corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” her Certificate of National Service because of her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement on Sunday, the NYSC described the claims as “false and unfounded,” clarifying that Raye’s certificate was withheld for disciplinary reasons unrelated to politics.
According to the scheme, Raye was among 131 corps members whose service years were extended for violating NYSC regulations. Specifically, she missed the April biometric clearance, a breach that led to a two-month service extension in line with NYSC Bye-Laws.
The NYSC stressed that such sanctions are standard and have consistently been applied to corps members who fail to meet clearance requirements.
Raye had previously drawn public attention after a TikTok video in which she criticised the Tinubu administration and described Lagos as “smelling” went viral. She later apologized following backlash.
