A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has described the massive crowd that welcomed former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, to Port Harcourt on Wednesday as a strong signal of political change ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Eze said the reception was a clear indication that Rivers State — and possibly Nigeria — is poised for a shift in governance, with Amaechi positioned as a central figure in the unfolding political realignment.
He noted that Amaechi’s recent activities, including his involvement in a new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have unsettled rival political camps. The former Rivers governor had earlier declared that the coalition would back any consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
Eze likened Amaechi’s current efforts to the pivotal role he played in 2015 when he helped bring the APC to power, describing his departure from the ruling party as “historic and strategic.”
“For Amaechi to dump the APC — a party he helped build — shows he is on a mission to rescue Rivers State from the grip of undemocratic forces,” Eze stated.
He added that the crowd’s overwhelming show of support reflects strong public approval of Amaechi and the ADC, which he described as the vehicle for delivering a new government in Rivers State in 2027.
Eze emphasized that Amaechi’s popularity in the state remains unmatched, crediting his past developmental efforts and commitment to the people’s welfare.
