Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has sharply criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of politicising the church altar and abusing his office through questionable land allocations in Abuja.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, Ibe described Wike as a “whiskey-guzzling” politician who turned a religious gathering into a stage for partisan attacks. He condemned the former Rivers State governor for what he called the desecration of the church altar with “lies, vengeance, and drunken arrogance.”
“What is utterly abominable is the desecration of the sacred altar with partisan bile,” Ibe said, referencing the minister’s remarks during a church service earlier in the day. “In Wike’s hands, the house of God became a theatre of lies and arrogance.”
Ibe further alleged that Wike had allocated prime Abuja lands to his sons in a manner likened to a feudal monarchy. He cited a report by Peoples Gazette and accused the minister of trying to suppress evidence by ordering the arrest of an FCDA staff believed to have leaked documents exposing the allocations.
“Now, cornered by truth, he has resorted to intimidation,” the statement added, accusing Wike of attempting to silence whistleblowers.
The aide also took a swipe at Wike’s political history, claiming that the minister once lobbied Atiku and his associates for the Vice Presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections — a request he said was rejected. He recalled that Wike lost to Atiku in the PDP presidential primaries both in 2019 and 2023.
“If he still thirsts for humiliation, he should prepare for a third and final defeat — this time, right at his doorstep in Obio-Akpor,” Ibe warned.
Concluding on a religious note, Ibe cautioned Wike that wealth and political power were fleeting, adding, “God is not mocked. The altar is not a podium for propaganda. And the day of reckoning is not far.
