Senate President Godswill Akpabio has suggested that Rivers and Bayelsa States may soon align with the All Progressives Congress (APC), as part of efforts to consolidate the party’s presence across the South-South region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio made the remarks on Saturday during a grand reception held to formally welcome Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, into the APC fold.
Addressing party supporters and political stakeholders, Akpabio expressed optimism that the South-South would soon be firmly under APC control, citing recent developments in Delta and Edo States.
“Governor Sheriff of Delta State, thank you for joining the progressive family and moving the South-South in a progressive direction,” he said. “Governor Umo Eno, after you, Rivers State will just tumble, after Rivers State, Bayelsa will join.”
He also lauded the party’s success in Edo State, saying, “We won the election with Governor Otu in Edo State, and we produced an amiable Monday Okpebholo. Congratulations once again for your victory.”
