No fewer than 23 people have been confirmed dead, while 108 others suffered varying degrees of injuries after coordinated bomb explosions struck three locations in Maiduguri on Monday.
Earlier reports indicated that the blasts occurred at the Post Office Flyover, Maiduguri Monday Market, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the casualty figures in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine the full details of the attacks.
According to the statement, the explosions—suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers—occurred around 7:24 p.m. on March 16, 2026, at the identified locations. Preliminary findings revealed that 23 persons lost their lives, while 108 others were injured.
Daso further disclosed that security agencies, including police tactical units and the military, were promptly deployed to the affected areas.
He added that the sites were secured, cordoned off, and thoroughly swept by the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to eliminate any additional threats.
