The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to resist calls to return to politics and instead safeguard his reputation in retirement.
The party’s spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, gave the advice while reacting to remarks by Professor Jerry Gana, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suggesting that Jonathan could contest the 2027 presidential election.
Oladejo dismissed the suggestion as premature, stressing that governance should be about fresh ideas and proven performance rather than recycling past leaders.
“Professor Gana cannot decide alone who the PDP candidate will be. This only highlights the party’s lingering challenges with fairness and internal democracy,” he said.
He further warned that Jonathan would face significant hurdles if he attempted a comeback, pointing to his past records and current political realities.
According to him, Nigerians should prioritize pressing national issues such as food security, electricity, transportation, jobs, and security, while noting that President Bola Tinubu is already implementing reforms aimed at reviving the economy and improving citizens’ welfare.
