Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of the country. The demand was outlined in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting convened by the minister.

The communiqué reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the substantive National Secretary of the party and declared that any meeting not convened with a formal notice from him, as stipulated by the PDP constitution, is null and void.

It further urged the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and Senator Anyanwu to jointly notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of plans to convene a National Convention. The notice must clearly state the agenda for the meeting.

Wike’s position adds to ongoing internal debates within the PDP on power rotation and party leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
