The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has stated that while the South-East will eventually produce Nigeria’s President, such ambition will not materialise in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Monday, Umahi appealed to people of the region to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing him as committed to national development, including in the South-East.
His comments were in reaction to a publication titled “The Politics of Asphalt: Why is the South East Missing from the Map?”, which alleged that the Tinubu administration has sidelined the region in terms of infrastructure projects.
Umahi dismissed the report as false and misleading, accusing its authors of attempting to stir ethnic sentiments and distort facts for political gain.
“Politics is in the air, and some have chosen the path of deception—pretending to fight for the people while ignoring the extensive and selfless infrastructure development Mr. President is executing across the country,” he stated.
