Political activist Deji Adeyanju has sparked fresh debate over the 2027 presidential elections, suggesting that former President Goodluck Jonathan could be the opposition’s strongest candidate to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
In a post reported by Eyes of Lagos, Adeyanju argued that a coalition ticket featuring Jonathan and either Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso or a young northern politician paired with Peter Obi would offer the best shot at victory.
“The coalition best ticket in my view is maybe GEJ/Kwankwaso or, if they want to go north, a young northerner/Obi. But no southern candidate can defeat Tinubu except GEJ,” Adeyanju stated.
He also dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, citing age and lack of appeal to young voters. “Atiku is too old, he won’t excite young voters. Opposition needs to excite young voters,” he said.
Adeyanju’s remarks have triggered a flurry of reactions online, as political observers and citizens debate potential alliances and strategies ahead of the next general elections.
