The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), remains an active member of the opposition coalition, amid widespread speculation over his political direction ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Monday, ADC’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed reports suggesting Obi was planning a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Peter is in the coalition regardless of what anybody is saying,” Abdullahi stated.
He emphasized that Obi understands the political implications of rejoining the PDP, pointing to the continued dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the opposition party.
“Everyone knows that the jugular of PDP is still in the hands of the ruling party. Peter Obi, more than anyone else, knows he cannot take the risk of going to the PDP,” he added, according to The Cable.
Obi has yet to make a public statement addressing the speculations.
