The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has accused certain state government officials of withholding crucial information related to the implementation of the 2024 budget under the now-suspended administration.
Addressing members of the House Special Committee overseeing the emergency administration in the state on Wednesday, Ibas raised concerns about the lack of transparency and poor documentation, which he said are hampering preparations for the 2025 fiscal year.
“The available records on the 2024 budget are inadequate and troubling. They fall short of the standards required for planning a credible and effective budget for 2025,” Ibas stated.
In response, Chairman of the Committee and House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, pledged the committee’s support for the Administrator. He emphasized the committee’s commitment to restoring peace, stability, and development in Rivers State, assuring that the budget process would undergo thorough scrutiny.
“Rivers State has always demonstrated what good leadership can achieve. We intend to uphold that standard,” Ihonvbere said.
