Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Arch. Tonye Cole has said that education and digital economy are his priorities as Governor of the state.
Cole, in a radio interview in Port Harcourt, few days ago said education is a must, and that it must be dealt with.
According to him, education is important because it sets the tone and base of one’s future.
Part of his statement reads,
The first priority we must always deal with should be education based. Education is important because it sets the tone and it sets the base for who your future is going to be. If you do not give them that base of education, you have already put them in a problem for tomorrow.
So, let’s deal with education. Education is a MUST. It has to be dealt with. We are all where we are today because of education so put education on one side.
Now, we have to leap-frog. And for us to leap-frog development in Rivers State, it means we have to go digital and we have to bring in a digital economy into play.
For me, digital is a big thing and how you leap-frog with digital is that the first point is to put broadband access, Wi-Fi, fibre-optics again, it’s there. It means one has a cable that runs just offshore Rivers State. I was speaking to the Managing Director and she was telling me that by 2024, that broadband will be inside Rivers State. So, that’s good. Build on that.
So, digital infrastructure, very key. Education, very key. Both of them work hand in hand and you must educate for them to be able to know what to do with it, alright. So that works.
