The Rivers State Civil Society Organizations has called for the protection Prof. Omiete Briggs, who served as electoral officer in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area in last saturday’s elections.
Chairman of RIVCSO, Enefaa Georgewill made the call in a statement noting that the group would ensure the protection of the officer whose life is reportedly under threat.
Prof. Briggs allegedly turned down bribes during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Rivers state to alter results of the elections.
Prof Omiete Briggs, had in a statement raised an alarm that her life is in danger because she refused to rig elections in favour of some highly placed persons.
Also, Briggs’ husband, Amonia Briggs during a media conference in Port Harcourt, appealed to security agencies to help protect his wife from persons after her life.
According to him, his wife went into hiding on the 25th of February after threats to her life, adding that an act that should have attracted commendations is now a source of anguish to the family.
