Nineteen individuals kidnapped by suspected sea pirates have been rescued after spending over two weeks in captivity. The victims were freed on Monday by operatives of the Royal Fouche Security Services, also known as Amama soldiers.
The operation, which commenced on Sunday, was launched following an appeal from the Department of State Services (DSS), according to Da Amakiri Tubo, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri and leader of the rescue team, Asari Dokubo. He praised the swift action of his team in securing the victims’ release.
Authorities revealed that one of the victims, who had previously paid a ransom, played a key role in aiding the rescue mission.
Dokubo also raised concerns about a missing military officer believed to be involved in the incident.
One suspect, identified as Victor Daniel from Akwa Ibom, denied involvement in the abduction, claiming the gang is led by an individual from Bayelsa State.
