PORT HARCOURT — The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has identified 15 local government areas in Rivers State as being at risk of flooding this year.
The Head of Operations, Port Harcourt Zonal Office, Eric Ebhodaghe, made the disclosure during a quarterly briefing with Journalists Against Disaster (JAD) held yesterday in Port Harcourt.
Ebhodaghe said that, in response to the flood prediction, the agency has been holding strategic meetings with key government stakeholders to develop measures aimed at minimizing the impact and preventing potential loss of lives and property.
“In Rivers State, we have identified communities within the LGAs, at high risk of being flooded this season.
“Looking at the situation record, there are about 15 LGAs affected, and within the LGAs, we have identified 15 viable IDP camps,” he said.
